If you’re thinking but’s it’s 2019 its too late to start a successful blog, think again. Whilst it is not going to be a “get rich quick” scheme or an overnight success, it is totally worth the time and effort.
Ultimate Guide to starting a successful blog in 2019

1. Establish your Audience

Before you can take any other steps in setting up your blog you need to understand who you are writing to. Remember, in order to have a successful blog you need to write for your audience, not for yourself. What can you provide to your audience? How can you help your audience solve or a problem?
Picking a topic such as travel, in general, is too broad.
The final step in deciding on your audience is to research to see if there are other bloggers pitching to the same audience. If there are, find a way where you can offer something different, or perhaps offer a better version. You need to be able to distinguish yourself from other blogs in your niche.

2. Decide on a name

The name that you choose needs to be able to grow with you so that as you grow as a blogger your name is still relevant.
Your name should be unique, easy to remember and not too long! You want to ensure that your name is the same across all social media platforms that so that your audience can easily recognise you.

3. Choosing your Domain and Hosting

If this is your first website you might be unsure with some of the “lingo” that is used in the blogging world
  • A domain is the URL of your website. For example, my domain is www.bestechy.com To claim your website, you’ll need to pay an annual fee for your domain.
  • When it comes to web hosting, this is essentially renting the space for your website.
  • 5. Setting up your blog on WordPress

WordPress.org is one of the most common blogging platforms for successful blogs. Just make sure you use WordPress.org and NOT WordPress.com, as you will want to self-host your blog and WordPress.com does not allow this.
WordPress.org is a great option for beginner bloggers as it has lots of free plugins and designs to get your blog startedYou will be asked to select a password for WordPress.org

The next step is to choose your theme – do not panic over which theme to pick, you can change this again later.

    6. Connect your blog to Google Analytics

Google Analytics shows you how much traffic is coming to your blog and where you are getting your traffic from. It shows you statistics such as how many people are viewing your blog, how long they spend on each page, which country they’re from, their age groups etc. This is important is assessing who your main audiences are.
Google Analytics will give you step by step instruction on how to set up your page.

    7. Customising your website

Now for the fun part! Designing your website. Now you have already chosen a theme for your website but you can change that if you don’t like the theme you have chosen. Simply click onAppearance –> Themes
WordPress has many free Theme which is great when you’re starting out and unsure of how much money you want to commit straight up. However, it also has some premium (paid) options that have more features and support. I quite like the themes from pipdig.co. They offer great support and reasonably priced themes. They also offer free installation of your theme, so you don’t have to worry about all of the nitty gritty’s.
